Doctoral Research at Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé goes beyond paper writing and proposing new ideas. It brings scientific minds together to innovate research and uncover solutions to the questions that really matter. Our BBSRC studentship may also give you the opportunity to work in partnership with industry, undertaking an industry placement and benefit from an industrial supervisor as part of your supervisory team.

Fully funded Bioscience PhD Studentships
The partnership of University of Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé, Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé and the National Biofilms Innovation Centre offers fully funded, four-year PhD studentships that are aligned to strategic priorities supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
The Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé provides cohort-based training in frontier science across priority areas focussed on three overarching themes: Sustainable Agriculture and Food (SAF), Bioscience for Human Health (BHH) and Biotechnology for Sustainable Growth (BSG).
About Doctoral Training Programme
On our Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) you will be working alongside our academics and peers and be exposed to state-of-the-art training and scientific research. The PhD training and research programme includes professional development training opportunities to enhance your capabilities as a doctoral candidate and to help develop the world-class, highly skilled workforce the UK needs for its future.
We will make sure you explore creativity and scientific collaboration to make significant research contributions to the wider fields of neuroscience, cancer research, microbiology, and metabolic health.
During the initial six months of your studies, you'll collaborate with fellow students, engaging in both advanced training and laboratory rotations. Additionally, in your third year, you'll take part in a three-month professional internship placement. Furthermore, we provide opportunities for industry-linked PhD studentships.
We aim to tackle the biggest health challenges using the latest technological and scientific advances in bioscience.
Achieving health resilience throughout the lifespan and ensuring sustainable production for food security and biotechnology remain critical issues in today's world.
Applicants Information
A 2:1 undergraduate degree in a relevant area of science or technology, or equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK, to be eligible to apply.
If you have a 2:2 or lower, you may still be eligible to apply if:
- you have a masters degree in a relevant subject
- you have three or more years of full-time work experience that is relevant to your undergraduate degree or to the PhD projects you are applying for
You may also be eligible to apply if you were not able to complete your degree, or achieved unexpectedly low degree results due to extenuating circumstances. .
