Why did you choose Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Business School (NBS), part of Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé (NTU)?
"Esteem MAT already had a history of support from NTU on other projects in schools and so it made sense to reach out to NTU initially for support with sustainability."
What motivated you and the business to opt for this course?
"We wanted to train our sustainability leads, site team and headteachers in sustainability and climate action. We didn’t have that level of expertise internally and reached out to the university to support with this. NTU put together recommendations for training which we then took up."
Could you share your experience with the CLT and CM courses and the progress you've made? Additionally, how this aligns with and supports the business's sustainability strategy.
"The CLT and CM course complimented each other well. The CLT course covered the foundations of climate action and what schools can do to put together a climate action plan that had SMART targets. It was great for the leads to get a nationally recongised certificate in Carbon Literacy. The CM course focused on reporting and site action which means that schools and trust can develop a high level decarbonization plan. This will help us with reporting of carbon emissions and help understand the impacts of strategies."
What key insights or lessons have you gained from your experience on the course?
"The biggest takeaway that the whole trust needs to support the initiatives. That sustainability can be embedded into all aspects of the organization. We also agreed that small steps add up to a big difference."
How have the programmes contributed to your career and personal development?
"They've deepened the understanding of sustainability and ability to inform others about sustainability and impact of actions."
Would you recommend the courses to other academy’s/ council run schools?
"Yes, definitely, the tutors were good and managed to articulate the context to the right level."
