Alumnus wins NCTJ Award for Excellence
Bobby Twidale, MA Magazine Journalism graduate, won an NCTJ Award for Excellence 2021 with her podcast - Walking and Talking - hedge laying. Highlighting the achievements of individual with promising journalism careers ahead of them, the Awards for Excellence have a number of categories such as sports, news and podcast journalism.
CBJ students clean up at international Broadcast Education Association Awards 2021
Two recent graduates and a current student of our BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism degree took prizes at the 2021 BEA On-Location Creative Competition. 2021 graduate Anna Wilkinson won the Student Documentary competition, taking the prize for Best of Show in that category, for her video documentary feature produced as part of her final year work Downright Discrimination – A Life Worth Living.
Journalism students awarded prizes by industry partners in the CBJ awards
Graduating students from Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé’s (NTU) BA (Hons) Journalism and BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism courses attended the annual Centre for Broadcasting & Journalism (CBJ) awards this year. The awards celebrate their achievements during the course, as well as connect them with industry partners before they graduate. Parents, staff and industry partners attended to see a total of 12 prizes given to a selection of exceptional students.
Broadcast Journalism student Brad Jones wins Best on Screen Talent at National Student Television Awards
Brad Jones, BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism student has won the award for Best on Screen Talent at this year’s National Student Television Awards (NaSTA). Bradley is Deputy Station Manager at TrentTV, the official TV Station of Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Trent Students' Union, and was nominated for the award by his fellow society members.
CBJ students Highly Commended in the Midlands Media Awards 2019
Two CBJ students, Eve Smallman and Gurjeet Nanrah, were highly commended in the 2019 Midlands Media Awards, held in Birmingham. Eve Smallman, who studies BA (Hons) Journalism, and Gurjeet Nanrah, studying MA News Journalism, were both highly commended in the highly competitive ‘Features’ category.
Student wins the People's Choice Award at the Young Art Journalism Awards
Final year student Malvika Padinharathra (BA Journalism) received the award for her article about Hockley café August Moon Tea.
Multiple Student Radio Association Awards for students' work with Fly FM
Journalism students Jen Thomas, Alex Mason and Kerrie Coshan collected five gongs at the 2019 Student Radio Association Awards for their work with Student Union radio station, Fly FM. The station won Bronze in the Best Specialist Music category, Bronze in the Best Chart Show category, Silver in the Best Journalistic Programming category, and picked up awards for Best Event or Outstanding Broadcast.
Student Publication Awards 2018: Outstanding Commitment
Eve Smallman has received an award for Outstanding Commitment at the Student Publication Awards 2018 in Cardiff. Eve took over Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Trent Student Union’s magazine Platform, which has been out of print for several years, after feeling as if the opportunity for a thriving student publication was being missed. The magazine now has over 80 members and has published four print editions, with the society still growing thanks to Eve’s hard work and commitment.
Broadcast Journalism student wins two Community Radio Awards
Emma Snow, second year Journalism student, has bagged two awards at this year’s national Community Radio Awards 2018. Emma won Bronze in the Best Female category and Silver for Best Entertainment, out of around 360 entries from over 75 stations overall.
Royal Television Society Student Award 2017
Anna Butler (BA Journalism) won a prestigious Royal Television Society student award for Best News Item, for her news package, ‘Music on Prescription,’ looks at the role music is playing in helping NHS patients overcome illness and injury, including strokes.
Broadcast Journalism alumna scoops two international film awards
The Lord of Milan, a film co-directed by BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism alumnae Georgianna Scurfield, has won two awards at an Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé film festival in Milan. Georgianna is now working at Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé’s LeftLion and made the film alongside her colleague Jared Wilson.
Student Radio Awards 2016: Best Female Presenter
Jenny Thomas won the Gold Award in the Best Female Presenter Category at the Student Radio Awards 2016. She won the award for her work with NTU's student radio station, Fly FM. Jen's award was presented by Radio 1 DJ, Scott Mills.
