Role
Dr Anne Felton is the Head of the Institute of Health and Allied Professions at ŷ. Anne established this department at NTU which delivers a range of healthcare education and research, taking students from entry level to health care careers, through to specialist and advanced practice.
Anne's practice is underpinned by a commitment to enhancing the lives and care experiences of people using health services. Throughout her career she has worked to achieve this through the impact of her own teaching practice and more recently through developing high performing teams able to deliver excellent education and research in the healthcare field. Much of her work has adopted a co-production approach with strong partnerships across healthcare organisations, service users and students.
She supervises PhD students in topics related to mental health practice and education.
Career overview
Anne is a registered mental health nurse and began her nursing career promoting recovery approaches for people with long term mental health problems in the community. She moved into nurse education in 2007. She has extensive experience within healthcare education, promoting student centred approaches to learning and curriculum design. She has lead a number of educational projects related to the participation of people with health conditions in professional education, simulation and student mental health.
Research areas
Anne undertakes qualitative research and has expertise in shared decision making, co-production, therapeutic risk taking and critical perspectives in mental health nursing and practice, work which has been widely disseminated.
External activity
Anne works with a range of healthcare organisations and is engaged in national mental health nursing networks. She has reviewed nursing curriculums and participated in expert panels for curriculum validation and mental health related events.
