Role
The senior tutor on the Barristers Training Courses, Ian was appointed as a Principal Lecturer in 2007 and led our Bar courses from April 2010 until commencing a phased retirement in September 2024. He has twice been an Acting Head of Department and is the principal subject coordinator for Civil Litigation. He also teaches Ethics and Civil Advocacy and, on the LLB, the ALK Civil Practice module.
Career overview
In 1997 Ian joined Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Law School and was jointly responsible for devising and writing Civil Practice materials for the Bar Vocational Course.
He is an accredited Advocacy trainer, an Assessor in respect of Solicitors' Rights of Audience in the Higher Courts, a practising door tenant at Field Court Chambers, Gray’s Inn, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Ian is a member of Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in 1990. A Civil Practitioner, his specialisations included the Law of Landlord and Tenant and Family Law (in particular ancillary relief and the law relating to children).
