Role
Jess was elected President of NTSU for the 2024/25 academic year, following a successful term as Vice President Education, and began her presidency in July 2024. As President of Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Trent Students' Union (NTSU), Jess leads the Trustee Board and relevant committees, collaborates with the CEO on governance, and represents NTSU as an NTU Governor. She ensures the Union's strategic direction and key performance indicators are effectively implemented and plays a key role in strategic staffing decisions. Jess fosters a productive relationship between the NTSU CEO and the Trustee Board, regularly engages with students to represent their views, and implements programmes to gather student feedback. She liaises with senior University staff to advocate for student needs, leads the NTSU Executive Team, and maintains a consistent representation of student interests. As the public spokesperson for NTSU, Jess oversees democratic procedures, manages the Freshers Team, and works with the Executive Committee to implement policies and campaigns. She serves as the primary liaison with the National Union of Students (NUS), monitors higher education trends, and prioritises campaigns to address student concerns effectively.
During her term in office, Jess is focused on ensuring NTSU and its officers represent NTU students to the best of their ability, fostering student participation in decision making, and pushing for more transparency on how both organisations are working hard for students. Jess has a close focus on the student experience, looking at student safety and living standards across Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé for all students, and ensuring that the student body has an accessible and positive time at university amidst the cost-of-living crisis.
Jess attained a 2:1 in her undergraduate degree in BA Business during her time at NTU and actively participated in extracurricular activities to enhance her professional skills. Her experience as the President and Social Secretary of an NTSU society honed her skills in communication, delegation, and representation, which she similarly employed as Vice President Education. Jess is passionate about student welfare and support during their academic journey and will be utilising student responses from various ventures to improve engagement and provide the best student experience possible.
