Role
Dr Kelly Yarnell is Principal Lecturer in the Department of Animal, Equine and Veterinary Nursing Science. Kelly provides leadership for the academic staff and lectures on a range of modules across the department and wider school. Kelly leads a Work Like Experience-based module that embeds high-impact knowledge exchange and provides students with authentic industry experience. Kelly also leads the Applied Animal Breeding module and is interim Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Animal Biology. Kelly is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Career overview
Dr Yarnell originally trained as a veterinary nurse before studying for a BSc in Equine and Human Sport Science. She then worked as a Welfare Executive for the before being awarded a Vice Chancellor's Bursary to undertake her PhD study here at NTU. Dr Yarnell has worked as a teaching fellow in the School of Veterinary Medicine at before returning to NTU to take up a full time lecturing position. She progressed to Principal Lecturer in 2018.
Research areas
Kelly’s research focuses on sustainable veterinary treatments using medical and nutritional technologies, specifically reproductive, gastrointestinal and ophthalmological health and welfare. Her current projects are funded by Anpario Nutrition and Stallion AI services and her collaborators include Veterinary Vision, The University of Vienna and Newmarket Equine Hospital.
