Role

Dr Labadz is the Postgraduate Research Tutor for the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences. In addition to supervising her own PhD students, she supports all PhD students within the School and leads part of the DoctoratePlus Programme for all PhD students at NTU.  Her undergraduate teaching contributions are to BSc (Hons) Geography, BSc (Hons) Geography (Physical); BSc (Hons) Environmental Conservation; BSc (Hons) Environmental Science and BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation. She is Deputy Chair of the College of Science and Technology's Research Degrees Committee and a member of the University Research Degrees Committee.

Research areas

Dr Jillian Labadz is a member of the Natural Environment Research Group and active in the Sustainable Futures research theme.

Her main areas of interest include hydrology (river flows, floods and water resources), and fluvial geomorphology. She specialises in research on:

  • Hydrology of Peat Areas: upland and lowland areas, including restoration and management of damaged bogs
  • Natural Flood Management: development and impacts on river flows
  • Fluvial Geomorphology: transport and delivery of suspended sediments
  • Moorland Soil Erosion: processes and rates
  • Reservoir Sedimentation
  • Surface Water Quality and Catchment Management:  discolouration, acidification, eutrophication and time of travel of pollutants

Opportunities to carry out postgraduate research towards an MPhil / PhD exist in all the areas identified above. Further information may be obtained from the NTU Doctoral School.

Current PhD students include: , Anne Stefaniak, Dalton Baltazar.

Recent PhD completions: Theodora Vataroglou (2018), (2016)
