Rebel Tartan

Explore global fashion design at Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé, in collaboration with top universities such as Donghua University China, Pearl Academy India, and Bunka Fashion College Japan.

A showcase of global fashion design, undertaken at the Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé School of Art & Design in collaboration with , , and , took place between 3-27 November 2023.

The Rebel Tartan Project began in 2015 with the aim of highlighting political issues through creative design education. Working with tartan ranges from the Liberation Kilt Co., students from across the globe collaborated to research themes of Climate Change, Human Trafficking, and Nuclear Disarmament.

Now an embedded and ongoing COIL project at NTU, thanks to Rebel Tartan co-founder Juliana Sissons, the project was brought to life through an exhibition of student work and an online symposium on 22 November 2023.

The exhibition comprised five outfits from each participating institution, displayed throughout November in the Bonington Atrium.

The cross-cultural collaboration and peer appraisal made possible through the project being delivered via COIL, provides students with an invaluable global viewpoint and opportunity to build their international network. The project continues to empower young designers to create meaningful, symbol-laden pieces, promoting awareness and discussion on critical social issues.
