Last year, local publisher, Five Leaves started a poetry series with the aim of uncovering and publishing pamphlets by excellent poets across the East Midlands who have not yet published a full-length book.
Eleven pamphlets have been published so far, six of them by graduates of MA Creative Writing at NTU: Elvire Roberts, Jane Bluett, Teresa Forrest, Fiona Theokritoff, Julie Gardner, and Caroline Stancer.
Commenting on the excellent achievement, course leader and published poet, Rory Waterman said: "I've led the MA Creative Writing poetry module since arriving at NTU in 2012, and usually co-teach it with Andrew Taylor, which is great for students, I think, because we have different specialisms. The module has become a real hothouse for talent, with many students going on to achieve serious acclaim. The excellent new poetry pamphlet series from Five Leaves Publications is a case in point. Six of the eleven poets published thus far in the series are our graduates: Fiona Theokritoff, Teresa Forrest, Jane Bluett (who completed her studies before my time here), Elvire Roberts, Julie Gardner and Caroline Stancer - who launched her pamphlet in a packed Å·ÃÀ¾ÞÈé Library last week. Julie has returned to undertake a PhD, with Andrew and me as her supervisors. We're extremely glad to have the opportunity to work with such talented and dedicated students, and then to remain in touch with them, helping wherever we can, as they make names for themselves."
MA Creative Writing alumni and author of one of the eleven pamphlets, Caroline Stancer commented: "Studying on the MA in Creative Writing at NTU developed my confidence in my ideas, and gave me the in depth feedback and knowledge to improve my writing. I began writing many of the poems in my pamphlet while on the course. The MA also gave me a warm creative community which has encouraged and nurtured me over the past few years."
